Landsvirkjun, an Icelandic energy and engineering firm is utilizing several systems to manage and
secure its own business. One of its instrumental systems is the FOCAL Quality Manual (FOCAL
QM). This quality control system manages the company’s procedures and instructions. FOCAL
QM purpose is keeping the employees informed of the company’s current rules and methods, for
example, how to handle announcements, non conformities, audits and corrective and prevented
actions. These tasks follow the international standards of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and
ISO 27001.

The Icelandic Blood Bank has upgraded its quality systems to be compliant with
the ISO-9002 quality standard for all blood and plasma collecting and production
processes. This elevates the Blood Bank into an exclusive group, as it's now one
of only fifteen blood banks in the world to have reached this objective, the
first ever in Scandinavia.
To manage all its documents, human resources and quality issues, the Blood Bank
uses software solutions from FOCAL Groupware; which have been adapted for the
Blood Bank. "Our Quality Manual was developed directly using FOCAL Groupware's
Quality Manual system," says the Blood Bank's quality manager. "The Quality
Manual system initiated and reinforced our progress, saving us time and effort.
It now keeps tabs on everything from audits,project management and training to
deviation and complaints.
Furthermore, the system has helped us to use other FOCAL solutions to support the
quality system as shown in the BSI appraisal. Thanks to the FOCAL Applications,
we have now combined the quality efforts in our overall operation." Or, as Bjorn
Hardarson a biologist at the Blood Bank puts it: "Working with the FOCAL Quality
systems has saved us at least two years of painstaking work."
With the FOCAL systems, the Blood Bank has created a certain continuum with the
FOCAL Quality Manual as a key element that connects to the Blood Bank's other
control and quality systems. Quality documents are processed in the Quality
Manual, which lead to audits and non-conformities that track how the Quality
Manual is being applied. If deviations occur they are dealt with by the FOCAL
Project Management system and the results are used to improve the Quality
Manual. Additionally there are links to the FOCAL Human Resources system where
job descriptions and training can be processed
